To talk about Edwige Fenech to fans of seventies European exploitation movies is to talk about Mecca to a Muslim. Someone takes her to a satanic ritual, in the hope of curing her (!). She becomes a tool at the hands of this cult, who order her to kill for them. Soon, a mysterious stranger follows her… Another must for her fans (and those who wishes to be).

Your Vice Is a Closed Room and Only I Have the Key (1972) One of my all-time favorite title for this other Sergio Martino thriller.

The Case of the Bloody Iris (1972) Another giallo, yeah!… and maybe my favorite Edwige movie! There’s a lot of murders at a modern building. The usual suspects are lining up: a mother and a disturbed son, a daring lesbian, our main heroine’s new boyfriend… an excellent thriller! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? And Edwige wears a tie!

magme mania!

So ever since my last post about starting my blogging for MagMe, I’ve been very busy researching all the hot gossip and writing pieces for the site.  The focus is always to comment or add onto an already existing magazine article (since it is a free-content magazine website), so it’s kind of annoying to have to wait until People, Us, or Life & Style publish their news (since other gossip blogs tend to post gossip right away, or at least sooner than the mags), but it helps keep my content on trend.

I’ve added a new link in the “Find Me” section on the right, so that you guys can keep up with my multiple daily posts.  There are other great bloggers on the site (like I mentioned before), and they tend to write a lot more than me, and all their articles are quite interesting/funny!  So if gossip isn’t your thang, you’ve got options, kiddies.

Strip Club and the Church - Part One

This weekend I read about a strip club in Las Vegas that was advertising their club via a truck they drove up and down the strip.  Now this was no ordinary truck.  This truck had clear panels so you could see the dancers inside dancing.  Yep a portable strip club right there driving around complete with girls, poles, lights, music, and ultra high heel shoes.  I would imagine they grabbed a little attention.

My first thought about this marketing ploy was “wow what an amazing, creative idea”.

Next thought was what if the church took this same approach?

I’m not saying have a truck driving around with strippers, while that would grab some attention I don’t think that is the correct route to take.  What I am saying is when will our local churches get BOLD with their advertising?  Not just flyers in the mail, a billboard, or a website.  I mean stepping out, reaching the people, showing them what living in Christ is all about, in a bold way.

Think about this; I would imagine that this strip club has neon on their building as well as shapes of women which could attract those looking for, well, a strip club.  Yet instead of just sitting back waiting for the crowds to show up they went out to the people said ‘hello Vegas, here we are, look at us. Here is what we have to offer’ and it worked.  I understand that their business is booming.

Contrast that to the church where we put a cross on the roof, name it with a name that sounds like a cemetery, then sit back and wait.

I believe our product is much better than what the strip clubs are selling. So let’s act like it!  Get creative! Get crazy! Go wild! Get BOLD! Find a way to get people to church, to hear God’s word, and have a BLAST doing it.

Censorship or Common Sense: Contemporary Art Education Update

Over the past week I have had a lot of conflict over this step which the school has taken over images of pornography on my study space. Talking directly to other tutors at the University connected with the Fine Arts Dept, they have shown shock at this step. Students working close to the work did not care and have had their debate over the imagery and work. No one to this day has aired any concern over these images and I have been in the studios almost daily for the past week. I am very happy that students have connected to the work in the way they have and brought about their own debate on the work.

Mature students have to realise at some point we are living with the first generation of unrestricted hardcore pornography and violence online. This generation is open to wide range of taboo imagery and have become desensitized. The school or any art school would have to step back, allow debate and allow the freedom of expression to shock and offend. By removing all this subject matter without debate, forward thinking or logic on this issue is a cause for concern.

A question I have forwarded to the school was “Should art schools have a warning sign just like many galleries have put into practice to alert young people under the age of eighteen to the mature imagery and content on show?” Then people have a choice to make.

Covering up these images of hardcore pornography was a choice I made. I was not under any circumstance going to take the imagery down of the wall. This way it works for all. I am not offending delicate minds, nor I am removing the chance for students to investigate the work itself as it progresses.
